Tracie Johnston Art

Mississippi artist using textured acrylics to sculpt & paint imperfect versions of God’s creation

About the Artist

Tracie Johnston

store owner

Brookhaven native, Tupelo based artist, Tracie Johnston, discovered her God-given gift as a child when her mother, Nancy, realized Tracie’s sermon “doodles” were actually very detailed sketches of the sanctuary and congregation around her. Nancy showed her daughter’s drawings to a professional artist, Vicki Land, and Vicki told her to foster Tracie’s gift. Nancy did, and Tracie has been creating in some form or another since then. She has been working with textured acrylics almost exclusively since 2015 when she began painting for charity auctions. With her focus on her family with her husband, Daniel, Tracie did not venture to paint for the public past charitable causes until January of 2020. Tracie has been both amazed and humbled at the response to her art. The Johnstons have truly enjoyed watching the God-given gifts grow into the family business it is today and sharing the journey with their 2 young children.

About the Art

Tracie uses textured acrylics along with various metallic mediums and industrial compounds to create imperfect versions of God’s beautifully designed creation. Florals are her favorite as they are a universal language used to communicate emotions in all of life’s biggest moments and can make even the mundane extraordinary. Her grandparents and great grandparents had Haag’s Flower Shop in Brookhaven for decades, which inspires her even more to honor that family legacy through art.
